Biography – Bishop-Elect Vernon L. Spinks
On November 17, 2001, Bishop-Elect Vernon L. Spinks was installed as the second pastor of Praise Temple Apostolic Faith Church, Inc. Praise Temple was founded over 50 years ago by the late Pastor Marie D. Battle. Bishop Spinks is the founder of Praise Temple Church of Virginia.
During his 18 years of pastorate, Bishop Spinks have carried the church forward spiritually as he built on the teachings of the former founder in worship, holiness, apostolic doctrine, love and fellowship. Under his leadership, he renovated the Lane Street facility, purchased the church current facility in 2008, and implemented Children’s Church, Wednesday Power Hour Bible class, a church website with weekly live streaming, a monthly feeding program and an increase in church membership from 35 to over 100.
Bishop Spinks is often referred to as “A Man with an Excellent Spirit.” He has distinguished himself as a man full of compassion and love for the people of God with a servant’s heart. Truly the favor of God is upon him for such a time as this, to advance God’s kingdom.
In 2019, the diocesan bishop for the state of North Carolina retired. The Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith International Board of Bishop’s, unanimously voted for Bishop Spinks to assume the office of Diocesan Bishop for the State.
He is a graduate of Kings Business College, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and a former letter carrier of the United States Postal Service; a position he held for over 29 years before devoting his life to full time ministry. He is married to Evangelist Phillystine Spinks and from this union the Lord blessed them with 6 children and 14 grandchildren.
